Oka Draft of Portfolio

The writing class this portfolio document pertains to is WRIT 1133. The goals of the class include but are not limited to, the development of our intellectual habits, the ability to produce informed writing and to comprehend the significance of diversifying the methods and media used in the work produced. SUMMARIZE THE ENSUING PARAGRAPHS

The first project assigned for this class was to produce a text- based paper. The paper was to offer a satisfactory answer to a research question of our choosing and had to include at least five scholarly sources. The main form of research required for this paper was textual research, a concept that I am relatively comfortable with. I experienced no difficulty in incorporating the academic sources into my piece, as I have done this before for my biology lab reports. The research question that guided my paper was, “Should the US Government Increase Funding for Genetic Research?” The target audience for this project was college individuals whom possess a decent amount of knowledge with regards to the matter at hand. In order to cater to the target audience group, my paper contained a significant amount of supported facts in order to allow the reader to comprehend the basis of my argument. After constructing a rough draft of the paper, a process note was created to help reassess the objectives of the paper. Revision of work is a concept that is relatively new to me. In Singapore, where I previously studied, written work was done in- class and revisions were never allowed much less encouraged. Upon writing the process note, I discovered that my paper lacked an appropriate scope and that I had neglected to introduce the reader to some of the sources before including it in the paper.
