Olivia Anton_In Class Mapping

Olivia Anton

DIY New York City

This project looks at “Do it Yourself” cultural hot spots throughout the city of New York. The author explains the different activities at each of these areas and then points to there location on the map. This is an effective way to show the information because it is easy and concise. This will become the main goal of my paper. I like how this project explains the DIY activity in detail to interest the participant.

Final Project by Hope Marion

This project looked at different locations around Manhattan. I did not like this project because I found it confusing and difficult to understand the point the author was trying to make without the purpose being told. It did not state the location, no intro, and does not say what it is examining. I don’t think this would be a good edition to my paper because it is too vague.

Come Together NYC

This project looks at the different cultural interests around New York. Those mentioned Studio Art, Music, Restaurants, Crafts, and Public Art. The map shows different areas around the city where these activities are located. I liked this map and how it shows different locations but I did not like the lack of introduction for each activity like the first project had.

Modern Gomorrah

This location seemed to focus on a religious basis throughout Manhattan. The author mentioned that he was mapping the arts within the city with an emphasis on counter culture arts. The author mentioned activities ranging from a Presbyterian church to an Indian Restaurant. Although this was a somewhat more difficult mapping experience, because the author did not use the same format as the others and instead changed the image to fit the location rather than the automatic Google option, I enjoyed the different activities he suggested because they were spread throughout New York City.

I think this is going to be a very interesting project but I would model my project off of the first project because I thought that was the easiest to use and had the most information embedded.
