Hoa Vo - Mapping The Local

1. D.I.Y. New York City
This project is about the D.I.Y movement in New York City. The project highlights several important locations such as music festivals, fast food places, punk houses, even bookstores. I think the group covers a wide range of cultural places. They focus on emphasizing the depth of the D.I.Y event by taking pictures and writing well recap of each events that they have been in. The readers could immerse in the events themselves because of the well written pieces.
2. Final Project
The obvious lack of picture makes a very boring read and overall look to this project. I cannot seem to connect the dots here. Art and historic places may be the theme... But I don't really see a strong topic here on this project. The author did put in a lot of research though on this one. On a second note though, the project is really well written in terms of describing the places that this group has been to. They are just not recounting the event happened there, but the geometry and historical information that they give is awesome.
3. Come Together NYC
I found the theme of this project obvious because of the title alone. The author is clearly trying to give the viewer/reader a sense of the cultural and fun places that they can go to in NYC. The project contains many pictures, videos and well written description of the city. I would create a project like this. All of the locations also are places that people can get together to share something, whether its great food or emotions.
4. Modern Gomorrah
This one is also about NYC. But I really like this piece because of its language. I can say that it is beautifully written. There is a lot of emotion attached to each places, and the pictures go well with the writing too. There is quite a bit of research done in this piece. Overall, this one brings a different atmosphere to the table.
