Bao Le - Summary of NYC Google Maps Projects

D.I.Y:
The overall sense of this project is the how the D.I.Y. culture in New York has transformed the mainstream culture from coffee shops and bookstores to events and parties.

While this model is great with it’s use of pictures, the text bubbles make it hard to read the description of the places. This might just be a limitation of Google though. The overall summary was nice for providing a framework for the project and helped me know what I was looking for in the map.

Final Project:
The overall sense of this project is a bit hard to tell, but I gather that the author is just listing famous/historical places in New York. (I had to zoom out of the map to figure this out.)

This model might not help that much because it’s literally giant walls of text. There are very little breaks in terms of visual and there’s not much that would make a passing reader stay and explore.

Come Together NYC:
I feel that this project is talking about community efforts in NYC that has thrived and gathered or created a closely-knit community.

This is also great because there are both pictures and video, but the lack of a summary made it a bit unclear as to the purpose of this project.

Modern Gomorrah
The title references a modern city of sin, ad the project overall follows this. They talk about the feminist scene, and the many religious aspects of modern establishments like Panna II’s BYOB policy and the Presbyterian Church.

This is similar to the other projects, with the text being broken up by pictures. The usefulness of this one is that they use icons for different locations for each one so you get a sense of what the marker is talking about before even reading the location.
